The Director of Accounting Programs, working in conjunction with the Dean of the Girard School of Business and the Accounting Department Faculty, will provide leadership for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the online Master of Science in Accounting and the online Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (with concentration in Accounting) degree completion program. The Director will develop the online programs in coordination with existing on-ground Master of Science in Accounting and undergraduate in Accounting programs. The Director will be responsible for reviewing and updating the existing programs in collaboration with existing Girard School faculty and staff in order to create dual-modality accounting programs that meet current employer needs.
Although the position is an administrative position, the Director of Accounting Programs will participate in some teaching for the programs. The Director will work collaboratively to support the development and growth of the programs alongside the existing on-ground versions of these programs. Major areas of responsibility include:
• Develop program value propositions and market-responsive program features that enhance differentiation and competitiveness;
• Working in conjunction with the current Accounting Department Faculty, provide leadership for online bachelor’s completion and master’s program development and implementation (e.g., program and curriculum design, competency development, online faculty recruitment and hire, integration of program with academic and core business processes at Merrimack College, marketing, and student recruitment and retention);
• With the Accounting Department Faculty, update the on-ground programs as necessary to align with online programs;
• Manage vendors that support the program;
• Develop internal and external advisory relationships with area employers;
• Develop internal relationships and synergies with other departments within Merrimack;
• Provide ongoing program management for online programs (e.g., ongoing curriculum enhancements, enrollment management, oversight of student lifecycle services including student success coach, and tracking, assessing, and reporting on student progress and the program’s outcomes);
• Teach at least two courses per academic semester in the programs on a regular basis.
The initial challenges for this position will be to plan and implement all facets of existing academically strong bachelor’s completion and master’s degree programs in an online format with appeal to early and mid-career professionals. These programs are a critical part of Merrimack College’s strategic plan for growth and the addition of online modalities represent an opportunity to develop a model for other programs at the college.
The goal is to build programs that capitalize on strong growth in the accounting field, Merrimack’s strong business programs, and the Merrimack brand. Growing the business programs is a major area of focus for the College. With a new, well-accomplished Dean in the School of Business and investments in leadership, faculty, and new facilities – this is a very exciting time to join Merrimack College. The Girard School of Business recently opened Crowe Hall, a new state-of-the-art, 50,000 square foot academic building that features leading edge classrooms, a comprehensive business advising center, and applied learning experiential education centers.
