Dr. Alan R. Shoho has over 34 years of higher education experience, rising through the academic ranks from assistant professor to most recently serving as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at New Mexico State University. Before serving as Provost, Alan led the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee through a turbulent period of fiscal challenges including declining enrollments for ten years, a structural deficit, and a carryforward deficit. Prior to UWM, he was at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he rose through the ranks to Professor and then Associate Vice Provost for Academic and Faculty Support for 21 years.
Alan has been directly involved in executive-level searches throughout his higher education career. His university experience spans virtually all administrative areas of higher education, where he has established effective networks throughout the nation. Alan has advised multiple chancellors and provosts, mentored dozens of academic leaders, including deans, department heads/chairs, and program directors.
Alan was an American Council on Education (ACE) fellow and worked at the University of North Carolina Charlotte during his fellowship. Alan earned his B.S. in electrical engineering from California State University, Fullerton, his M.Ed. in secondary education from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and his Ed.D. in secondary education/research methodology from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Alan is based in San Antonio, Texas.
