Laura Woodworth-Ney brings thirty years of higher education experience to the Summit Team, including service as an administrator, full professor and academic historian. She has more than a decade of experience in the Provost’s Office at Idaho State University, where she served as Executive Vice President and Provost, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Under her leadership, Idaho State expanded its state-wide campus footprint; achieved national recognition for its health sciences programs; launched an online presence of more than forty academic programs; and partnered with a medical school to create a shared health sciences campus. In addition, Laura served as Director of Women’s Studies and has held teaching appointments at the University of North Texas, Maryville University in St. Louis, and Washington State University.

Laura’s leadership has at its core a deep commitment to higher education’s role in society as an engine of opportunity. A staunch advocate for equity and accessibility, Laura helped pioneer initiatives that significantly expanded the diversity and retention rates of Idaho’s public institutions. These experiences give her a unique perspective on the transformative impact of the search process, and as a former client of Summit Search, allow her to relate directly to the needs of clients and search committees.

Laura holds a PhD and MA in History from Washington State University and a BA degree in English from the University of Idaho. Laura is nationally active on topics related to higher education and has served on the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education’s Academic Forum and as a board member for the American Association of Chief Academic Officers. A noted historian and award-winning editor, Laura is the author of three books with two in progress.

Laura divides her time between Colorado and Idaho.
